FAQs
1. What is Air France Pet Policy?
If you’re planning on travelling with your beloved dog or cat to your next vacation destination, then you’ll want to know about the Air France pet policy before booking your flight. Some basic points of this pet policy are given below.
- Up to 5 pets (dogs, cats and rabbits) can be taken on board in addition to your hand luggage. Each animal may not weigh more than 8 kg, and you must check each pet-carrying case before boarding. If you are travelling with a bird, you will need authorization from Air France before travelling.
- Pets are allowed in the cabin on most Air France flights. However, because of weight and space limits, larger pets (such as dogs) must be checked into cargo for flights that do not allow pets in the cabin.
- There are very specific rules and regulations governing what kind of pets can fly in your lap or a carrier. This is why it’s so important that you read through their guidelines before making any flight reservations for your pet. It doesn’t matter if your cat is used to travelling like a king, if he doesn’t meet Air France’s requirements, he won’t be allowed on board—and you may have to pay a fee for bringing him in his carrier without papers.
2. Is it safe to ship my pet with Air France Cargo?
Yes, Air France cargo is a safe way to ship your pet. And Mostly people ship their pets with Air France Cargo because it’s the most cost-effective option and a way to avoid the sometimes ridiculous fees charged by pet shipping companies. It has been around since 1933, so they know what they’re doing when it comes to getting your pet safely to its destination country. Handling pets is only part of a long list of responsibilities that airlines are charged with. When animals are involved, additional precautions must be taken to ensure their safety and care. From temperature controls to proper storage, there’s more than meets the eye when it comes to moving your pet. And Air France strictly follows these requirements while shipping your pets from one place to another.
3. How much does it cost to reserve a pet?
If you’re planning on booking flights to Paris, France with Air France, you might consider making it a family trip and bringing along your pet.
The fees you need to be aware of:
- $150 for an animal under 20 pounds to travel as either checked or carry-on baggage

If you choose to travel as cargo, it’s important to know that your pet will be loaded into the aeroplane at least two hours before departure and will stay in the hold until the aircraft reaches cruising altitude, where it will be returned to the aeroplane’s temperature-controlled and pressurized compartment. From then on, your pet will be given food and water according to its flight plan and needs.
5. How do I reserve a pet on an Air France flight?
Air France has increased their pet policy to allow travellers to bring their furry friends on board with them. Here’s how you can reserve your pet’s spot on your next Air France flight, so you can keep your family together on your next trip.
Before you start
Find out if your dog or cat is eligible to fly as air cargo with Air France. Most pets must be at least 8 weeks old and weigh 2 kilograms (4.4 pounds) or less, but there are some exceptions. Your pet will need to have been vaccinated against rabies within 30 days of travel. If you’re travelling from certain countries in Asia, you’ll also need to bring along a health certificate issued by an official veterinarian stating that your pet has been treated for ticks and tapeworms within 5 days of travel.
Step 1: Log in to your Air France account
If you’re a frequent flyer with Air France, you may already have one—or simply log in using your Facebook or Google+ profile. Otherwise, sign up for one here. Step 2: Provide your pet’s information: Enter your pet’s weight, breed, and type of animal.
Step 2: Follow instructions
Once you’ve found your pet reservation form, open it in Google Docs or Microsoft Word (or whatever word processing program you prefer). You can then fill out your pet reservation form. Make sure that you include all of your pet’s important information such as name, age, breed, sex, and any behaviours that may be specific to your animal. Onward and upward!
Step 3. Confirm animal details
As you fill out your booking form, you’ll be allowed to select your pet (as well as its breed, age and type). Click through each of these pages and enter all requested information. Please ensure that you have selected a dog or cat from Animal Type and that Dogs (adult) or Cats (adult) are selected from Breed. If in doubt, contact us for further assistance.
Step 4: Payment and Information
You can purchase a pet reservation from $300.00 to USD 900.00, depending on your destination and mode of transportation. For reservations within North America and between North America and Central America (except Cuba), there is no cost to reserve your pet in advance of travel; however, please note that pets travelling within North America are subject to restrictions, as set forth below. For reservations for all other destinations, you must pay for your pet’s reservation at the time of booking. Payment must be made by credit card only. No other forms of payment will be accepted.
Step 5 – Final Checklist
When you’re confident that your introduction, body and conclusion are complete, read through your post one last time before publishing it. Read it out loud if possible and ask yourself: Does it make sense? Do I want to skim or skip anything? Is there any extra jargon that I can remove without sacrificing professionalism? Make sure to re-read your title too! It should convey exactly what your content covers.
6. What methods of transport do Air France Air Lines provide for my pet?
Air France offers two transport options for your pet, which differ based on the weight of your pet and where you are flying from and to. While it’s not likely that you will need to ship any pets with Air France, it’s important to know the different methods available in case you have to fly with your pet, or are just curious about what options are available.
Domestic Flights
For domestic flights, pets are accepted only in carriers (with dimensions measuring no more than 36 by 18 by 15.5 centimetres) that can be stowed under your seat or in an overhead compartment. A maximum of one pet carrier per person is allowed, and there must be enough space left over for passengers’ hand luggage. Pets are not permitted to travel on laps or seats during take-off and landing. The presence of a passenger’s animal onboard will be noted in their travel document.
International Flights
If you’re travelling on an international flight with your pet, make sure you check with your airline to ensure that they will be able to provide safe transport for your animal. Certain restrictions apply, so make sure to ask them before booking your ticket. In most cases, you can reserve a spot in advance by contacting us or visiting our website before completing your reservation.
7. Does Air France limit the number of pets allowed in the cabin per flight?
Air France, just like any other airline, limits the number of pets allowed in the cabin per flight. The number of pets allowed on Air France flights can vary based on the time of year, travel dates, and route travelled.
Each person can only take one pet onboard
For safety reasons, only one pet can be transported in each passenger cabin. This means that if you travel with your cat and your dog, you will need to transport them in different cabins (or even on different flights) with a flight crew member. If you are travelling with two pets of different species, they must also be transported in separate cabins. However, if they are both cats or dogs, they may travel together.
8. Do I need a new health certificate for my pet’s return trip?
Your pet must be accompanied by an official health certificate and vaccination card issued less than 10 days before departure (except dogs, cats, hamsters and guinea pigs travelling to/from Japan). This health certificate must be valid for at least 30 days following the date of arrival in France or the end of transit in Paris (whichever comes first). If your pet will be travelling to France from another country, you must submit the health certificate from that country along with the one issued by your veterinarian.
9. How old does my pet have to be to travel?
To travel on Air France, your pet should be at least 8 weeks old.
10. How many pets can fly in a single kennel?
Air France allows 20 dogs or cats; 5 birds (excluding cockatoos); and 2 hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs, and similar small animals. The maximum combined weight of all of these animals is 30 pounds.
11. What Size will Pet Carrier Fit Under an Airline Seat Air France?
Airlines such as Air France can now carry up to 15 pounds of pets under an airline seat, so long as the pet carrier meets certain size requirements and the pet owner pays an additional fee when purchasing their plane ticket (the flight must also be direct). The pet must be carried onto the plane and it cannot be placed under the seat in front of you (it will get trampled, trust me). If you’re flying with your furry friend on Air France, you’ll want to make sure that you have the properly sized pet carrier to allow your dog or cat to fit under your airline seat.
12. Does Air France Have a Weight Limit for Pets?
